Microsurgery - Trauma to the extremities of the hand

Microsurgery is a specialized branch of surgery that uses microscopic techniques to repair tissues, vessels and nerves that cannot be treated with conventional surgical methods. It involves the use of special microscopes and very fine instruments, allowing surgeons to perform extremely precise procedures.

Microsurgery is applied in various fields of medicine, such as:

  • Hand surgery (injuries, congenital anomalies, reattachments)
  • Plastic and reconstructive surgery (tissue transfer, burns repair)
  • Neurosurgery (nerve repair, nerve compression)
  • Vascular surgery (vascular reconstruction, microvascular surgery)
  • Orthopaedic surgery (osteosynthesis with microsurgical techniques)

Hand Surgery is performed by Orthopaedic or Plastic Surgeons who have received the necessary specialization.

Hand surgeons are trained in the surgical treatment of all upper extremity injuries that may require fracture ossification, tendon and nerve stapling and vascular anastomoses, while more complex procedures involve the fusion of amputated limbs.

Specialised Doctors

Hand surgeons are experienced in complex upper extremity reconstructive procedures such as neurotransfers, tendon transfers, the use of flaps, nerve and vascularized bone grafts and brachial plexus surgery.

More specifically, the scope of our doctors’ surgical practice includes:
  • Treatment of upper limb injuries (from simple injuries to the welding of a fully amputated limb).
  • Treatment of chronic diseases of the Hand.
  • Reconstructive surgery of peripheral nerves of the upper and lower limbs.
  • Transfer of full thickness vascular – nerve tissue (free flaps).

Hand Microsurgery can restore function and quality of life to patients with severe injuries or conditions of the upper or lower extremities.
