Dr. Andreas Georgiou is an accomplished Pulmonologist – Tuberculosis Specialist with many years of clinical experience and high scientific training. Major Achievements
- Founder of modern pulmonology in Cyprus and creator of pulmonology clinics nationwide.
- Creator of the first nationwide bronchoscopic laboratory in the public sector in 1993 with the introduction of (a) the flexible bronchoscope for the performance of bronchoscopies, for the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases and (b) the Abrams and Copes needles for the performance of pleural biopsies.
- Author of the statutes of the Cyprus Pulmonary Society in 1993, twinning with the Hellenic Pulmonary Society in 2009 and chairing the first Cyprus-Greek Congress in Nicosia on 18-20 March 2010.
- An important achievement was the conclusion of an agreement between the Ministry of Health and the thoracic surgery clinic of the University Hospital of Vienna (AKH) for lung transplants.The agreement was signed in 1997 and since then lung transplants of Cypriot patients with end-stage lung diseases have been carried out in Vienna.
- Organizer of the pulmonary rehabilitation program for COPD patients that started its operation for the first time at the lung clinic of the General Hospital of Greece on 9/11/2009 as well as the bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease schools.
- On his initiative, the association of lung patients was founded in 2011.

- Obtaining a Doctoral Degree (PhD) in University of Athens 12/5/2006.
- Training in distinguished centres abroad in therapeutic bronchoscopy (Laser, brachytherapy, autofluorescence) for the treatment of patients with lung diseases.

Participations / Recognitions / Awards
The Pulmonology Clinic of the General Hospital of Greece, under the direction of Mr. Georgiou, conducted during 2008-2009 pioneering epidemiological studies in the National Guard regarding smoking habit,bronchial asthma and the determination of the tuberculosis infection index which was low < 5%,and did not justify the chest X-ray examination that all new recruits had been undergoing for decades, resulting in its discontinuation.He also conducted epidemiological studies nationwide on the prevalence of Bronchial Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, which led to the award of PhD degrees.
