Types of Available MRI Examinations (MRI)

At Diktaion Medical Center, we provide a variety of MRI examinations for the diagnosis of various medical conditions. The main types of tests include:

MRI of the brain and spinal cord
  • Diagnosis: tumours, aneurysms, multiple sclerosis, injuries, infections and other neurological diseases.
MRI Upper and lower limbs
  • Diagnosis: injuries, ligament ruptures, degenerative joint diseases and bone abnormalities.
MRI of the abdomen and pelvis
  • Diagnosis: tumours, inflammations, infections and other diseases of the internal organs (liver, kidneys, pancreas, bladder).
Vascular MRI (MR Angiography)

Preparing for the MRI Examination

Preparation for the MRI test may vary depending on the type of test, but generally includes the following:

  • Removing Metal Objects: remove all metal objects (jewellery, watches, glasses, headphones, make-up with metal particles).
  • Fasting: For abdominal, pelvic and heart examinations, fasting is required 4-6 hours before the examination.
  • Hydration: drink plenty of fluids before the test unless otherwise instructed.
  • Medical History: Tell your doctor about any metal implants, pacemaker, or pregnancy.
  • Medication: check with your doctor if you need to stop taking any medications before the test.
MRI Examination Procedure
  • On Arrival: You will be asked to remove all metal objects.
  • Placement: You will lie down on the MRI table. The table will move slowly into the MRI chamber.
  • Examination: During the examination, you should remain still. The examination usually takes 30-60 minutes, depending on the type of MRI. You may be asked to hold your breath for a few seconds at certain times.
  • Contact: You will be in contact with the technologist via microphone and headphones. You can let us know if you feel discomfort.
  • Use ofcontrast: In some tests, it may be necessary to administer contrast material through a vein for better imaging.
After the Inquiry
  • Recovery: You can return to your normal activities immediately after the test unless otherwise instructed.
  • Results: The results of the MRI will be evaluated by our qualified physician and we will inform you of the findings and any further action required.
